About Us
Origin Story
From a young age, I was deeply moved by a strong compassion for animals. At just four years old, I would share my glass of milk with a community dog outside my parents’ home in India. When neighbors noticed, they informed my mother, who, concerned, stopped me from going outside to drink. That restriction, though hard, did not stop my love for animals—it simply sparked a quiet rebellion in me, finding ways to connect with them whenever possible. My bond with animals grew even stronger as I got older. Determined to have a dog of my own, I convinced my parents to adopt my first pet, a dog named Snoopy, by refusing to eat until they agreed. Snoopy brought immense joy to my life, living a full and happy ten years before passing away on December 21st, 2012. Her passing only deepened my commitment to helping animals in need. In India, I became more involved with community dogs, providing food, medical care, and advocating for spay/neuter programs. My passion for animal welfare remained unwavering. After moving to the United States and marrying Jonathan, I met my beloved cat, Shiva, who became my foster fail. Shiva’s presence was transformative, and he became not only a cherished companion but a catalyst for my continued mission to help animals in need. Shiva passed on March 7th, 2024, but his spirit and impact on my life are everlasting. In honor of Shiva and my lifelong dedication to animals, I founded the Shiva Foundation. Our mission is to provide funding for medical expenses for community animals in need, ensuring that these animals receive the care they deserve.
